Environmental Groups Seek To Block Louisiana Gas Pipelines

Two environmental groups are challenging the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s approval of two interstate natural gas pipelines intended to supply gas to the previously authorized Driftwood LNG export terminal in Calcasieu Parish, La.

Healthy Gulf and the Sierra Club told the US Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in a Monday brief that FERC violated the National Environmental Policy Act by allegedly refusing to determine the pipelines’ upstream greenhouse gas emissions as an indirect effect of the project, or to consider the significance of the greenhouse gas emissions from building and operating the pipelines.
