The Energy Department is looking into amending energy conservation compliance deadlines for various appliances following a request from multiple gas trade associations.
The notice and request for comment—scheduled to be published in the Federal Register April 27—concerns standards for commercial water heating equipment and consumer furnaces.
The American Gas Association, the American Public Gas Association, and the National Propane Gas Association filed their petition to DOE Feb. 19. The groups are seeking to push the compliance deadlines—currently Oct. 6, 2026, for commercial water heaters and Dec. 18, 2028, for consumer furnaces—to Jan. 1, 2030.
