Oil and gas companies embroiled in nationwide climate litigation want the US Supreme Court to revisit a Colorado-based tort suit that they claim reaches far beyond state authority, according to a petition filed Friday.

Exxon Mobil Corp., Suncor Energy Inc., and other industry defendants are appealing a decision handed down by the Colorado Supreme Court in May, which allowed a Boulder County, Colo., climate case to move closer toward trial.
