ENERGY BRIEFING: Democrats Renew Clean Energy Bill Efforts

House Democrats unveiled comprehensive legislation with a national goal of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 through targeted investments in clean energy across the power, transportation, and industrial sectors.

The 10-title bill unveiled yesterday would establish a federal Clean Electricity Standard (CES) to put the U.S. on an ambitious path to 100% clean electricity generation by 2035, and would direct the Securities and Exchange Commission to require public companies to disclose information about climate risks to their bottom lines. The measure would establish a second national target of 50% reduction in greenhouse gas pollution from 2005 levels by 2030.
