ENERGY BRIEFING: Climate in Infrastructure Package to Get Push

Democratic lawmakers are planning to double down on addressing climate change in this year’s highway bill and infrastructure package, going further than failed attempts last year.

Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del), chair of the Committee on Environment and Public Works, said on Wednesday the surface transportation reauthorization bill can play “a central role” in accomplishing President Joe Biden’s climate goals.

“Surface transportation reauthorization is a remarkable opportunity to address climate change,” Carper said. “Transportation emissions are the largest source of emissions in our economy.”
