Hundreds of chemical manufacturers will receive notices from the European Chemicals Agency that their registered chemicals may be reviewed for possible regulatory action, the agency announced Jan. 27.
“The agency has selected nearly 300 substances from REACH registrations for further scrutiny by the member state competent authorities,” ECHA announced. REACH (Regulation No. 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation, authorization and restriction of chemicals) applies to chemicals made or sold in the European Economic Area, which consists of the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway.
