EC Rejects Chinese Offer on Dispute Over Solar Panel Import; Deadline Looms

July 16, 2013, 4:00 AM UTC

BRUSSELS—European Union Trade Commissioner Karel De Gucht will make a final attempt to resolve a trade dispute with China concerning Chinese solar panels after negotiations over the past month failed to settle the EU’s largest-ever antidumping duty case.

The high level talks between De Gucht and Chinese Commerce Minister Gao Hucheng will take place at an undetermined date after the EU executive body informed EU member states July 12 that it had rejected a Chinese offer to prevent current antidumping duties of 11.8 percent rising to 47.6 percent on Aug. 6.

If no deal is reached with Chinese trade officials the duties will rise to 47.6 percent Aug. 6.
