DuPont and 3M Among Companies Sued by Washington State Over PFAS

Washington state’s attorney general filed a lawsuit Tuesday against manufacturers of forever chemicals used in firefighting foam.

The lawsuit, filed in King County Superior Court by Attorney General Bob Ferguson (D), targets 20 companies—including 3M Co., DuPont de Nemours Inc., and the Chemours Co.—for allegedly contaminating drinking water with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) used in aqueous film-forming foam (AFFF), a firefighting agent.

Nearly 200 water sources in Washington have tested positive for PFAS, according to the state’s health department.
