Dubai Breaks Ground on Record-Breaking Solar Power Plant

Dubai broke ground on the biggest concentrated solar power project in the world, slated to generate 700 megawatts of power as part of a complex that will generate 5,000 megawatts by 2030.

The project is the world’s largest single-site solar park and will feature the world’s tallest solar tower at 260 meters and the world’s biggest thermal energy storage capacity—a molten salt unit able to supply 15 hours of supply without sunlight. It’s named after ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who is also vice president and prime minister of the United Arab Emirates.
