Dominion Proposes Biggest U.S. Offshore Wind Farm Near Virginia

Dominion Energy Inc. has filed plans for what would be the country’s largest offshore wind farm, capable of powering 660,000 homes if regulators approve its construction 27 miles (44 kilometers) off the Virginia coast.

Review of the plans by the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management is expected to take two years, Dominion said Friday in a press release. If approved by Virginia’s State Corporation Commission as well, the Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind project could begin construction in 2024 and enter service in 2026, generating as much as 2,640 megawatts of electricity.
