The Justice Department is launching an environmental crimes task force focused on Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, the department said Thursday.
The task force will investigate and prosecute violations of federal law harming the environment, wildlife, and human health, and associated fraud, waste and abuse in the region, according to the Justice Department.
The effort is part of the department’s Comprehensive Environmental Justice Enforcement Strategy and the newly created Office of Environmental Justice within the environment and natural resources division, DOJ said.
