An Energy Department proposed rule aims to cut the energy consumption of beverage vending machines by 25 percent to 65 percent from current standards, which could lead to large energy savings for schools, hospitals, and large businesses and institutions.
Beverage vending machines meeting the standards in the rule that are sold from 2019 to 2048, when the agency estimates the rule would be in effect, could lead to net savings ranging from $400 million to $1.1 billion for vending machine property owners, according to the proposed rule announced Aug. 4.
