Diversified Energy to Issue Methane Detection Devices to Crews

Diversified Energy Co., the largest owner of oil and gas wells in the U.S., said it’s boosting efforts to detect methane leaks at its Appalachian sites.

The company is deploying an additional 500 hand-held devices that detect emissions, allowing crews to stop leaks at “little-to-no incremental cost,” the company said Tuesday in statement. It said a pilot project involving 100 devices showed they are effective.

The announcement comes a week after the the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency released its proposed rules to slash methane emissions and as Pennsylvania finalizes its own regulations around releases of the potent greenhouse gas. ...
