DISH Network California Service Corporation will pay $5.5 million after settling allegations the company illegally disposed of hazardous waste since 2005, the California Attorney General’s office announced Wednesday.
The satellite television company is paying for penalties, costs, and community projects for its mishandling of electronic equipment that includes hazardous waste in devices, batteries, and aerosols, the AG’s office said.
Audits reported that DISH has sent hazardous waste to unequipped and unauthorized local landfills multiple times, which violated California’s Hazardous Waste Control and Unfair Competition laws.
