Diesel Upgrades Needed at Ports, EPA Says

Replacing older diesel vehicles and equipment at U.S. ports could significantly reduce emissions of nitrogen oxide, particulate matter and carbon dioxide, according to a Sept. 22 report from the Environmental Protection Agency.

The report, the “National Port Strategy Assessment: Reducing Air Pollution and Greenhouse Gases at U.S. Ports,” said replacing older trucks with newer diesel trucks could reduce nitrogen oxide emissions by up to 48 percent and particulate matter emissions by up to 62 percent by 2020.
