Gainesville Residents United, Inc. has sued Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) and other state officials, contending the newly passed law that created the Gainesville Regional Utilities Authority made up of DeSantis appointees violates the state and US constitutions.
The non-profit filed the lawsuit on Monday in the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida, asking that the law be struck down. Also named as defendants are state Attorney General Ashley Moody, Secretary of State Cord Byrd and the City of Gainesville as a nominal defendant. The law took effect on July 1.
