D.C. Circuit Skeptical of Suit Over SpaceX Satellite License (1)

The International Dark-Sky Association Inc. told judges on the D.C. Circuit that they should revoke SpaceX’s licenses to operate 7,500 Starlink satellites—even though around 1,500 of them have already been launched into space.

The FCC could limit the number of satellites, require additional mitigation measures, and turn the unused orbiting satellites to minimize solar reflections, Charles Lee Mudd Jr. of Mudd Law, representing International Dark-Sky Association Inc., said during oral arguments Monday.

The organization claimed that the Federal Communications Commission violated the National Environmental Policy Act when it approved SpaceX’s Gen2 Starlink fleet.
