Cybersecurity Monitor for Electric Utilities Set Up in Texas

Texas aims to bolster its defenses against cyberattacks by establishing a cybersecurity monitor to help utilities eliminate vulnerabilities of the electric grid.

A new law (S.B. 936) signed June 10 by Gov. Greg Abbott (R) requires the Public Utility Commission of Texas to select an entity to serve as the monitor. Its job will be to meet with utilities to discuss threats, research and develop best business practices regarding cybersecurity, and report to the state on the utilities’ level of cybersecurity preparedness.
