Court Should Nix ‘Slapdash’ Climate Study for Leases, Groups Say

Environmental groups are calling on a federal judge to scrap Wyoming oil and gas leases that previously fell in the court’s crosshairs for skimpy climate analysis.

WildEarth Guardians and Physicians for Social Responsibility told the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on Jan. 6 it should toss leases that the Bureau of Land Management approved in 2015 and 2016.

The court already sent the BLM back to the drawing board once, ordering the agency in 2019 to take a closer look at greenhouse gas emissions associated with the leases. The agency conducted a speedy supplemental environmental analysis (EA) ...
