Two environmental groups sued a West Virginia country club they say discharges lead shot from its gun range into a nearby brook without required permits, contaminating the area’s soil and groundwater.
Somers Land Trust Inc. and Riverkeeper Inc. accused Willow Wood Country Club in Mahopac, W.Va., of violating the Clean Water Act and the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, according to a complaint filed Tuesday in the US District Court for the Southern District of New York.
The groups said Willow Wood’s discharges from its shooting platforms pollute Brown’s Brook and surrounding wetlands.
