The Food and Drug Administration would be required to increase its oversight of cosmetics and the ingredients in them under a provision in the $1.7 trillion government spending bill released Tuesday morning.
The 4,155-page bill includes a ‘‘Modernization of Cosmetics Regulation Act” section that would require cosmetic manufacturers to register each of their facilities within one year.
Companies also would need to provide the FDA information that includes a list of ingredients in their products, including fragrances, and update that annually.
