Corps Seeks to Limit Nationwide Permit to Oil and Gas Activities

The Army Corps of Engineers proposed Monday to simplify the way a Clean Water Act permit needed for all oil and natural gas pipelines across the country is used, saying the permit would no longer apply to a variety of utility line crossings as well.

The Corps said it’s seeking comment on disallowing Nationwide Permit (NWP) 12 to be used for permitting electric utility, telecommunication, sewage, and water lines. This provision is part of its overarching proposal (RIN 0710-AA84) to renew and revise the package of 52 nationwide permits to authorize work in wetlands and other waters.
