A home construction company agreed to pay $400,000 after the federal government claimed it unlawfully discharged polluted stormwater into navigable waters.
The federal government, on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency, claimed that D.R. Horton Inc. didn’t comply with its Clean Water Act permits when it discharged sediment-laden water from construction activity at residential sites across multiple states.
Alabama joined the suit—alleging the company violated the state’s Water Pollution Control Act—along with the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, which brought similar pollution and permit violation claims.
