Conservation Groups to Join Title Fight Over Southern Utah Roads

Environmental groups can join the federal government in a long-standing dispute with Kane County, Utah, over rights-of-way near Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, the Tenth Circuit ruled Monday.

Kane County claims to own title to hundreds of alleged rights-of-way over public lands in southern Utah, according to various quiet title suits filed throughout 15 years of litigation. A large portion of Kane County covers the southern part of Grand Staircase-Escalante, which contains some of the most remote wilderness in the country.
