Colorado Conservationists Quit Coal Mine Methane Reduction Group

A Colorado environmental organization withdrew from a working group focused on reducing coal-mine methane in the western part of the state after they say the effort began to tilt too much in the coal industry’s favor.

High Country Conservation Advocates said they won’t sign a memorandum of understanding that outlines the mission of the working group, which is exploring economically feasible ways to reduce methane emissions from underground coal mines in a region along the North Fork of the Gunnison River near Somerset, Colo.
