Colorado lawmakers passed legislation that would restore protections for the state’s wetlands and streams after the US Supreme Court removed federal safeguards for many marshes, swamps, bogs, and other waters last spring.
The state is the first in the nation to legislatively restore sweeping wetlands protections in the aftermath of Sackett v. EPA, according to a Natural Resources Defense Council press release issued Tuesday. The bill, HB 1379, passed Monday and is now on the desk of Gov. Jared Polis (D), whose office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
