Colorado AI Law Splits Tech Companies as Officials Mull Changes

The tech community remains divided as Colorado re-examines its first-in-the-nation law that regulates artificial intelligence use by the private sector ahead of likely changes next year.

Microsoft Corp. and IBM Corp. largely support the measure passed earlier this year that places guardrails on systems that could replace human decision-making by their customers. Company officials spoke at an Oct. 21 hearing to a state panel in Denver that explored next steps the state should take in regulating the sector, or whether additional legislation should be under consideration.
