Coca-Cola Faces Deceptive Marketing Suit Over Sustainability

Coca-Cola Co. is falsely representing itself as a “sustainable and environmentally friendly company, despite being one of the largest contributors to plastic pollution in the world,” according to a new lawsuit filed Tuesday in a Washington, D.C., court.

The company created its environmentally friendly image to reach climate-concerned customers and motivate them to continue buying its products, Earth Island Institute tells the District of Columbia Superior Court. However, the company actively works to prevent effective recycling measures in the U.S., according to the group’s complaint.
