Federal energy regulators are illegally withholding public documents related to the Trump administration’s proposed bailout of coal and nuclear power plants, an advocacy group claims in a lawsuit.
The Nov. 13 lawsuit from the nonprofit Union of Concerned Scientists follows six Freedom of Information Act requests the group made to the Energy Department and one it made to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission seeking the documents. The group sought to find out which private entities were involved in the government’s 2017 proposal to subsidize certain coal and nuclear plants that were financially challenged.
