The Trump administration’s wildlife agency is removing the wood stork from the federal list of endangered and threatened species, according to a Monday final rule saying the wetlands-dependent bird will benefit from climate change and rising seas.
The population of the wood stork found in Southeastern states has recovered well enough to lift Endangered Species Act protections for the bird, the Federal Register pre-publication notice says, and rising seas due to climate change will expand the wood stork’s habitat.
