The effects of climate change and development will be factored into how national wildlife refuges are managed under new US Fish and Wildlife Service policies.
The four finalized policies will determine how all 571 national wildlife refuges adapt to climate change, coordinate with state and local governments, and plan for the future with conservation in mind. The refuges, which span more than 89 million acres across the US, protect endangered species and migratory birds, and are considered highly vulnerable to climate change.
