SHENZHEN, China—China’s government has proposed new labeling requirements for companies that produce wood-plastic composite products, including a requirement to provide information on formaldehyde and volatile organic compound emissions and heavy metals content.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection is accepting public comment on the draft technical requirements until Aug. 31. No date for implementation has been announced.
The wood-plastic composite sector is part of the strategic new materials industry, one of seven being targeted for development under China’s 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015).
