China’s western Gansu province is investigating a branch of major state-owned aluminum producer Aluminum Corporation of China Ltd. for improperly handling hazardous waste slag.
Aluminum Corporation of China (Chalco) was fined 100,000 yuan ($15,280) in September, but has yet to settle environmental violations related to dumping waste carbon cathode blocks, Zou Long, vice mayor of Lanzhou, where the electrolytic aluminum facility is located, said Dec. 26.
