Chevron U.S.A. Inc. and American Refining Group, Inc. agreed to pay penalties to the Environmental Protection Agency to resolve allegations that the companies violated fuel quality provisions in the Clean Air Act.
The EPA on Thursday announced the administrative settlements, which require the companies to pay, combined, almost $900,000 in civil penalties.
- Chevron allegedly failed to comply with Clean Air Act gasoline volatility standard and the gasoline per-gallon sulfur standard, which could increase volatile organic compound emissions and weaken fuel efficiency. The EPA claims both companies were in violation of benzene requirements.
