The Chemours Co. on Wednesday petitioned the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit to review the EPA’s June health advisory for GenX chemicals—PFAS substances that the agency considers toxic.
The Environmental Protection Agency’s advisory set a lifetime exposure at 10 parts per trillion for hexafluoropropylene oxide dimer acid (HFPO-DA) and its ammonium salt—commonly referred to as “GenX chemicals” due to the technology used to produce it.
GenX chemicals are perfluoroalkul substances (PFAS), which are thought to possibly cause cancer. The advisory was the first issued by EPA for newer forms of PFAS.
