3V Sigma USA Inc. will pay a $731,250 civil penalty and invest around $3 million in leak detection and repair practices at its chemical manufacturing facility in Georgetown, S.C., according to the Environmental Protection Agency on Wednesday.
The company allegedly violated the Clean Air Act’s requirements for miscellaneous organic chemical manufacturing resulting in excess emissions of hazardous air pollutants to the atmosphere, the agency said.
The consent decree requires 3V Sigma USA to reduce HAP emissions by around 12 tons per year, according to the EPA.
