Chemical manufacturers will have to pay millions of dollars more to the EPA for its oversight of their products under a final rule the agency released Thursday.
The fees are designed to pay a portion of the Environmental Protection Agency’s costs to review new chemicals before they can be made, examine risks of chemicals already in use, and safeguard corporate trade secrets it receives.
The EPA is increasing its fees due to a shortfall.
