Chemical Industry Coalition Drops One Claim in Asbestos Lawsuit

A chemical industry coalition is withdrawing one claim in their lawsuit challenging the EPA’s chrysotile asbestos regulation, because affected companies are already complying with a regulatory requirement, so judicial relief would no longer help.

The coalition, led by the American Chemistry Council, notified the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit Tuesday that it’s withdrawing one of three issues raised in its challenge to the Environmental
Protection Agency’s 2024 rule banning known uses of the only type of raw asbestos fiber known to be imported to the country.
