MELBOURNE, Australia—There are eight large-scale carbon capture and storage projects in operation around the globe, with six others under construction and 10 more projects that expect a final investment decision in the next 12 months, according to a report released Oct. 4 at a meeting of the Global Carbon Capture and Storage Institute.
The total carbon dioxide storage capacity of the 14 projects in operation or under construction is more than 33 million metric tons a year, “equivalent to preventing the emissions from more than 6 million cars from entering the atmosphere each year,” the report said.
