Carbon Reporting Bill for Big Companies Passes California Senate

A climate bill that would require large companies such as Walmart Inc., Amazon.com Inc., and Apple Inc. to report their greenhouse gas emissions to California officials cleared the state Senate on Wednesday.

The Climate Corporate Accountability Act (S.B. 260), which passed on a 23-7 party line vote, applies to U.S.-based companies doing business in California and generating more than $1 billion in gross annual revenue. It’s likely to affect some 5,200 public and private companies, including most of the nation’s biggest corporations, since the majority of them do business in California.
