Indiana is creating a permitting program for carbon sequestration projects after Gov. Eric Holcomb (R) signed a bill creating a regulatory framework for companies to store the captured greenhouse gas underground.
H.B. 1209, passed with bipartisan support and signed Tuesday, makes the Indiana Department of Environmental Management responsible for reviewing applications under a process outlined in the law. Companies applying to build carbon capture projects will have to hold public information meetings.
