Canada’s Top Court Postpones Carbon Tax Case Due to Coronavirus

The Supreme Court of Canada is delaying hearings into two high-profile challenges of a federal carbon tax for at least three months, in response to the spread of the new coronavirus.

Saskatchewan and Ontario’s judicial reviews of the Greenhouse Gas Pricing Pollution Act will no longer be heard March 24, 25, and 26 in Ottawa, Chief Justice Richard Wagner said in a news release late Monday.

The carbon pricing act mandates a $30 per metric ton of carbon dioxide equivalent charge on fossil fuel purchases and industrial facilities across the country.
