Fishing fleets have to stay out of a swath of the Gulf of St. Lawrence for at least 15 days under a temporary order Canada issued to protect North Atlantic right whales from becoming entangled in fishing gear.
All fishing vessels were to have removed traps and lines from six fishing zones off the northeast coast of New Brunswick as of 4 p.m. Atlantic time May 22, after two right whales were spotted in the region, Fisheries and Oceans Minister Dominic LeBlanc said on Twitter May 20.
