Canada Provides $3.9 Million to Transform Western City Into Model Solar Community

VANCOUVER, B.C.—The Canadian government Jan. 24 announced C$3.9 million ($3.92 million) in funding for a community-scale solar project in British Columbia.

The project for Colwood, a small city on Vancouver Island, will include retrofitting municipal buildings with solar energy, working with developers to build new model energy-efficient buildings, helping homeowners to retrofit up to 1,000 homes, and installing electric vehicle-charging infrastructure throughout.

Canadian Minister of State for Sport Gary Lunn, who represents an adjacent riding, or district, in Parliament, announced the funding from Canada’s Clean Energy Fund.
