California’s Blumenfeld Exits as Top State Environment Official

California Environmental Protection Agency Secretary Jared Blumenfeld is leaving to become inaugural leader of a new global climate change nonprofit, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced Friday.

Blumenfeld will become president of Waverley Street Foundation, a group focused on community-driven climate solutions started by Laurene Powell Jobs, the widow of Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Former U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson serves as chair of the foundation’s board.

“We have ten years to drastically cut climate pollution which is already causing extreme heat, mega-wildfires, destructive droughts, and sea-level rise,” Blumenfeld, who starts in September. said in a statement.
