California is proposing tough new restrictions on chlorpyrifos, a pesticide linked to neurological delays and low IQ in children.
The state’s Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) recommended county agricultural commissioners ban aerial applications of the pesticide and require farmers stop using it on most crops.
The agency also recommended a quarter-mile buffer zone around fields for 24 hours after application and a 150-foot setback from homes and businesses.
