California Parts Maker to Pay $1 Million Over Emissions Cheating

A company that manufactures aftermarket car parts that allegedly interfere with emissions-control systems pleaded guilty to violations of the Clean Air Act and agreed to pay $1 million in criminal fines and civil penalties.

Sinister Manufacturing Co. Inc. pleaded guilty Tuesday, the same day that a consent decree involving the company was filed in the US District Court for the Eastern District of California.

The government alleged that for nearly 10 years, Sinister violated the CAA by making and selling car parts designed to override emissions-control systems in an attempt to shirk federal emissions standards.
