Pacific Gas and Electric Co. followed the law in moving to operate Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant beyond previously expected closure dates of 2024 and 2025, a California Superior Court ruled.
The case clears one of two legal challenges to the nuclear plant after the state’s Democratic leaders enacted a last-minute measure last summer to possibly keep the plant’s units running until 2029 and 2030 to ensure power grid reliability. A second case is pending against the Nuclear Regulatory Commission in the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
