California Lawmaker Introduces Green Amendment for 2024 Ballot

California voters could add the right to a healthy environment to the state constitution under an amendment a legislator is proposing be placed on the November ballot.

The proposal from Assemblymember Isaac Bryan (D) comes as lawmakers in several states push to enshrine environmental protections in their constitutions through what have become known as green amendments.

The effort could also mobilize younger voters and environmentalists in the reliably blue state. Bryan also argues that the measure could safeguard California’s climate goals and environmental protections amid uncertainty in federal policy.
