California would put billions of dollars in play to combat climate change by boosting funding to battle wildfires and accelerating its move toward more low-emissions vehicles under a budget plan unveiled Monday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.
The budget blueprint, which would cover the fiscal year beginning July 1, would provide $648 million to support firefighters and equipment, including helicopters, to battle wildfires linked to drought and other impacts worsened by climate change.
